The beer is pretty good. They always have 3 pumps on, one is always Pride, one is usually but not always Landlord, and the 3rd varies a lot. [on 19 February] it was Wadworth 6X. The beer is well kept; in the 3 months or so we've been going, I nor anyone else in my group has had a bad pint.
Food is above average pub grub but nothing to write home about. About half the menu is dedicated to sausages, which they make a big deal about, but I can't comment on, as I don't eat meat. Others seem to enjoy them, though. Food is otherwise standard pub grub, and arrives reasonably quickly most nights, and we've never had to return anything.
But the biggest appeal is how quiet it is. OK, so we normally go on a monday night, and later in the week may well be different, but I don't see it getting nearly as busy as, say, The Ship, which is just down the road. There is no background music.
A good alternative to meeting at the Ship or the Pillars, when people fancy somewhere a bit quieter.
