Howling Hops is roomy and started out quiet. They had five beers available served from tanks, into cute 2/3 of a pint dimple mugs (with slightly dubious markings). Okay food was available, with random wait times.
The beer itself was good to very good, but the only dark beer they had was a Willy Wonka stout. They had a DJ starting at 8PM, but this didn't make conversation impossible immediately.
Hackney Wick overground extremely close by: it's easy to plan your getaway time so you're not left waiting on the platform for long.
